October 17-23, 2021, is Rodent Awareness Week, an annual designation established by the Professional Pest Management Alliance (PPMA), to promote public awareness of rodents and the dangers they present to home and health. PPMA, which serves as the public outreach arm of the National Pest Management Association (NPMA), also uses this week to encourage homeowners and business owners to work with a qualified pest control professional to address any and all rodent issues.
There are 176 species of these annoying insects in the United States and more than 3,000 species throughout the world, according to the American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA) — enough to ruin any number of picnics by the pool. These little pests are considered one of the most deadly animals in the world. This is not because of the itchy bite, but mainly because of the diseases transmitted by the bite.
